Pam
Pomeranian
It was midnight when I received a text message from someone in Lancaster marked “Urgent! “Then it said “Immediate need to rehome a senior Pom whose owner has passed away suddenly “In the photo she looked like she had just been groomed but all I could see was her face which had been formed into a circle, a fashionable Pomeranian cut (not a fan), and she looked to be a creme sable which is a very pretty coat color.
A dog transporter and I agreed to meet in Fresno and when she handed me the crate that was holding the tiny dog, I nearly dropped her because I wasn’t expecting a dog that should weigh 6 pounds to weigh in at 12! She was a chunker!
Her name was Puma but that title was already taken so I named her Pam because she just looked like a Pam. Poor Pam was so fat that she couldn’t walk on the floor. Only carpeting would work which is sparse in the WIldworks house so her extreme weight loss program began immediately. It was a long and painful process but after a few months of 1/3 cup kibble a day and a strenuous outdoor exercise routine she achieved her goal weight of 8 pounds. Still a little chunky but she is floor mobile and gets around like a champ. She still refuses to go in the kitchen or down the hall to the bedroom but everybody’s got their issues…. and those are Pam’s. Being the old lady that she is, Pam sleeps a lot and she snores as loud as a human!
