Fern and Macfly - New Best Friends
-

Border Collies are bred to herd sheep and cattle and even when they become pets in our homes their herding instinct remains strong. There’re no sheep at our Wildworks Wildlife Center so MacFly has taken to herding foxes! At 6 weeks old he took a liking to Fire the red fox and she helped raise him. Now at 6 months of age he has been introduced to Fern. Born in the wild, Fern strayed from her mom and siblings one early morning to follow humans as they were walking close to a hillside on their way to work. She arrived at the center at about 4 weeks of age, weighing in at less than a pound.

Although MacFly is much larger than Fern, he is incredibly gentle as they play and romp.

New best friends, Fern and Macfly, are now often a popular addition to our public outreach programs.

Please visit our list of upcoming programs on the website. We hope to see you soon!
