His Story
Harry is a turkey vulture who has been with us since January 2001. He was found in the wild in Northern California as an injured fledgling and taken to a rehabilitation center. His left wing was badly damaged and not able to be fully repaired, so he was transferred to Wildworks for permanent care. Harry adjusted quickly to his new habitat at Wildworks, except for one thing. Turkey vultures are social birds and at home, alone in his enclosure, we were worried that he might be lonely. Then another social bird without a companion came our way. The two birds were very different in appearance and size and hardly seemed like a match. We didn’t think they’d be dangerous to one another, however, so we took a chance and introduced them. Now they’re the best of friends: Harry, the turkey vulture, and his companion, a domestic chicken called Funky Chicken! |
